Catsup (I mean Catch-Up) Post

I'm sure you're all dying to know what's been going on here at 'Root House: The Next Generation,' and I apologize for my egregious lack of posting over the past week (and a half...). Having a screaming baby in the house (tune in for tomorrow's 'Adventures With Colic' post) tends to make the days (and nights) all blur together, especially when you're also sleep-deprived. In the brief moments of calm, I have been frantically trying to get things done before the next episode begins (taking a shower, brushing my teeth, tackling the mountain of laundry) and so haven't had a lot of time for blogging. There have been some fun things going on at our house nonetheless, and of course we have been taking photos. So, here is the week in review for your enjoyment...

Our beautiful new Icelandic Au Pair...

Ok, ok...she's not our au pair, but she is our wonderful friend Sigrun (sorry, there are no accents in this program) who is visiting from Iceland, and she does have some wicked baby-calming skills.

She even helped us go out to a nice dinner at one of our favorite restaurants (The Big Fat Fish Co.) by taking turns walking around with Jack when he got fussy. Between her and Josh I got to sit and eat the entire meal in (relative) peace! Yay for thoughtful friends and husbands.

Clarity & Caspian came over to visit. It was a warm, sunny afternoon, so we went for a walk with the babies and then hung out in the front yard.

Caspian took a dip in our new pool.

Great-Grandma Kay and Grandma Kathleen made the trek up to B-ham and brought us yummy Gere-a-Deli sandwiches for lunch. Jack snoozed in his Great-Grandma's arms. His little tummy was bubbling up a storm that day, but she was able to calm him down and help him relax.

Bethany Sternberg came up to meet Jack. She is now 20 weeks pregnant, and the newest member of the Sternberg clan should be arriving in November! She looks beautiful, and is feeling much better now that the dreaded morning sickness has passed. We had fun talking about pregnancy/birth/baby stuff and it was great to see her.

We got to meet our friends Chris & Mandy's new baby. Gwenivere was born the day after Jack (6 weeks early) and mom & baby are both doing great. Gwen is absolutely adorable and makes Jack look like a giant. She's still in the "sleepy phase" that Jack went through for the first few weeks after he came home (those were the days), but Jack fussed during our visit to give them a preview of what's to come... A big congratulations to Mandy & Chris on their beautiful little girl. I'm sure our families will have lots of fun adventures together in the future!
Jack is slowing learning to like bath time. He likes showers just fine, but it's hard to hold onto his slippery, wiggly little body AND wash him at the same time. So, while he may prefer showers, I prefer baths...
